SIPPing

AIM Shares

For those who are willing to save some additional funds to supplement their pension there is the opportunity to contribute to a SIPP. Although these tax-efficient vehicles have been around for 21 years, many people are still unaware of them. Yet, almost all UK residents under the age of 75 are eligible for a SIPP.

Two Sides of the Coin

AIM admissions dropped to their lowest level in over a decade in 2009, according to research by Deloitte, the business advisory firm, with just 36 new entrants to the market compared with 114 in 2008; previously the lowest was 75 in 1998.

We greatly appreciate the comments we receive from our readers. In particular we must thank those readers who have suggested companies and topics that they would like us to cover. Plant Impact

Growth from Growing

There are tremendous challenges for agriculture worldwide over the coming years as the increasing population places demands on arable land. Plant Impact (Pi) has a number of proven eco-friendly technologies and products which can be part of the solution – these products provide growers with increased marketable yields from their crops. CEO, Peter Blezard, is very optimistic about prospects for Plant Impact's products. Register FREE for Aimzine here …

Nothing Standard about

this New Category

A confusing name for decaffeinated regulation

Last September, the FSA issued a consultation document which proposes that from April 2010 the current Primary and Secondary listing segments be renamed to Premium and Standard. Simple enough but like a “Regular” latte the name doesn’t reflect the product. Ash Mehta looks at the implications of the new regulations for AIM.

Why did they

leave?

There has been much commentary in the financial press concerning AIM companies delisting, including particularly doom-filled diatribes from some high-profile fund managers and financial reporters. Scratch the surface, however, and you will see that allegations of AIM's shortcomings have been unnecessarily alarmist and misleading.

NeutraHealth

If you purchase own-brand vitamins from a supermarket or major healthcare chain you will probably be buying a product manufactured by Brunel Healthcare, a subsidiary of AIM-listed NeutraHealth. Amongst others, Brunel supplies Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Boots and Superdrug. Aimzine covered NeutraHealth in November 2008. Since then the share price has doubled. Register FREE for Aimzine here …

AIM Snippet

Two Significant Contracts

Every week hundreds of new contract announcements are made by AIM companies. A high percentage of these are reporting quite small contracts which have little effect on the value of the company. Today we highlight a company which has recently reported two very significant contracts and yet its share price has been little moved by the announcements.

Aimzine

Edition No 20

The New Year has not started that well for investors, unless you are an AIM follower. Carrying on the theme set by 2009, AIM has continued its out-performance into January with the AIM All Share Index recording a gain of 2.1% on the month.

Our main company feature this month is Plant Impact. This small AIM Company has a number of proven eco-friendly technologies and products which it believes can be part of the solutions to challenges for the world’s agriculture.

Ash Mehta, in his CityInsider column, considers the impact of the new Standard Listing and how it could affect AIM. As always, Ash’s column is recommended reading for all AIM investors (and Curly Wurly fans!).

David O’Hara for has produced an in depth analysis of AIM’s 2009 de-listings in his ‘Why did they leave us’ article. There has been so much misleading comment about companies leaving AIM that we are pleased to include this un-biased analysis in Aimzine this month.

In addition to the Featured Companies Update article we also have a special update on NeutraHealth, whose shares have doubled since our original article in November 2008.

In the ‘AIM Snippet’ article we highlight a company which has recently announced two particularly significant contracts.  Not that this company can match the 400% growth recorded by Cellcast Asia this year – see our Market Commentary article. Finally, how about including some of these high growth companies in your pension fund – see ‘SIPPING some AIM Shares’

Due to holidays there is no ‘Meet the Players’ article this month.

AIM still heading North

World markets have turned down in January, although the AIM All Share Index still managed to complete the month in positive territory. Could this be because many AIM businesses are growing rapidly - we highlight one business that's grown by 400% in 12 months.

(Click here to see the QCA’s letter to the Chancellor.) In this connection the QCA has set up a petition on the Number 10 website. If you would like to consider signing the petition please click here. The QCA would be grateful for your support.
